Sleep is something that many allergy sufferers, without an allergy free pillow, find extremely difficult to do. This is particularly true for those with dust and dust mite allergies which will affect them more at night. This isn’t surprising when you consider that when you go to sleep, your pillow is the closest thing to your head and face. The pillow you choose to sleep on for the next two or three years (after which it is recommended that you change it) is an important decision. After all, your head is likely to have been against the same pillow for around 8800 hours. While you sleep, oils from your skin, hair, and dead skin cells become ingrained in your pillow, attracting dust mites.

For allergy suffers, allergy free pillows can be a godsend. Due to its allergen repellent qualities and its psychological effect of calming the sufferer’s worries, allergy free pillows, particularly when used in conjunction with hypoallergenic bedding do ensure a better nights’ sleep.

Allergy free pillows, or ‘hypoallergenic’ pillows as they are also known, are constructed with an extremely tight weave of fabric which stops dust mites being able to get into and live inside your pillow. When you think that the size of the average dust mites is only around 250microns and their faeces around 10microns, you realise just how tight this weave needs to be to keep them out.

They are also made so as to be extremely easy to clean. In fact, you can put them in your washing machine and wash on a low temperature. Some hypoallergenic pillows are treated with an antimicrobial substance. This has the effect of killing dust mites by dehydrating them. These substances are obviously not at all harmful to humans or animals such as pets..

So why are these allergy free pillows hypoallergenic? These pillows are made during a manufacturing process that is free of the usual allergens used when making normal pillows. There are also many eco friendly and organic options to choose from. When manufacturing allergy free pillows, there are a number of materials that are commonly used. Polyester fibre fill, for example, can be used as a hypoallergenic option in place of the traditional down pillow filling.

Cotton is used to encase the whole pillow. Hypoallergenic down is also available, this is whereby the feathers are treated to remove all allergens but unfortunately of course these pillows cannot be put in the washing machine. Soy is also used as an alternative filling, the soy being made into a foam as an alternative to polyester or down.

Although more expensive due to the cost of the materials used in manufacture, allergy free pillows are worth the investment. As with normal pillows, allergy free pillows are available in all shapes, sizes, and filling. The internet provides a plethora of different hypoallergenic pillows available to buy so shop around until you find the right allergy free pillow for you to ensure allergy free nights.

Hypoallergenic pillows can change the way that you sleep if you are dealing with allergies. Your pillow is a source of many allergens including dust mites. The hypoallergenic materials used are made to repel dust mites and are free of the most common allergens used in the manufacturing process. You can get all of these beneficial features and still have one of the most comfortable pillows around when you choose hypoallergenic.

Reducing Allergens While You Sleep

Every night while you sleep oils from your hair and skin, dead skin cells and hair becomes trapped inside your pillow. These same materials also entice dust mites to visit your pillow. One of the advantages of hypoallergenic pillows is that the materials are made to be easy to clean. You can just throw your pillow into the washer and have a fresh night of sleep waiting for you. The materials themselves also repel dust mites to reduce your allergies significantly.

Click Here To Purchase a Hypoallergenic Pillow

Sleeping can definitely be a struggle when you have allergies. Using hypoallergenic pillows is one of the simplest ways to reduce allergies but you may also want to use hypoallergenic bedding. There are now complete sets of bedding available that repel dust mites and other allergens. Finding the most comfortable pillow can take a little experimentation, but luckily there are many versions on the market that you can choose from.

Materials Used

Hypoallergenic pillows are made from a wide range of materials including common cotton and polyester. There are also plenty of organic and Earth-friendly options to choose from including organic cotton and soy. Each material used will result in a slightly different feel with cotton and polyester being considered one of the softest combinations. Other materials used include the following:

Polyester fiber fill is most often used as a soft replacement for down. Polyester is hypoallergenic and soft enough for even the most discriminating sleeper.

Cotton is most often used for the outside of the pillow. If you have sensitivity to dyes then you will want to opt for unbleached organic cotton.

Foam is also used as a down alternative since it reduces the amount of allergens in pillows.

Hypoallergenic down is also now available. The feathers in these pillows are specially treated to reduce allergens in the pillow and have the same look and feel of traditional down.

Soy is a new alternative that is both eco-friendly and hypoallergenic. Make sure you opt for an organic pillow to avoid possible pesticides for the ultimate in hypoallergenic pillows.

Soy pillows are commonly made into a foam type pillow that provides extra support for the head, neck and shoulders overnight. Having a hypoallergenic pillow does not mean that you have to sacrifice the style that you like in order to sleep comfortably. There are actually many styles and firmness levels to choose from among hypoallergenic varieties of pillows.

Styles

Your hypoallergenic pillows can be in any style that you like. The most common pillow style is fluffy and comfortable but for some a more firm approach to sleeping is necessary. Foam pillows can also be purchased with hypoallergenic properties. Foam is firmer than polyester fiberfill and is often sold in shapes that mold to your neck and shoulder. Foam can also be washed regularly to ensure there aren’t any oil particles to attract dust mites.

If you love traditional pillows but really need hypoallergenic pillows in your home then you will love modern down alternatives. Many consumers feel as though the new down alternatives are just as comfortable as down filled pillows. If you feel limited by styles of pillows then you may want to expand your search to find new, comfortable styles that are available in hypoallergenic versions.

The Benefits

Hypoallergenic pillows are designed to reduce allergens but that isn’t their only benefit. These pillows are among the most comfortable available and they are also made to clean regularly. If you have ever tried to wash a down pillow then you know that it just isn’t as simple as it sounds. Down pillows often have a unique scent that is unappealing after many months of use simply because the filling of the pillow is too delicate to be cleaned.

Hypoallergenic pillows can be washed and if you suffer from allergies then you will find that it is actually recommended that you wash pillows on a regular basis. You can throw your polyester, cotton or soy pillow right into the washer and clean it on the regular cycle. If you have scent allergies then you simply need to stick with a scent free detergent for a clean that will help keep the allergies at bay overnight.

Pillow Firmness

Like your bed and blanket, your hypoallergenic pillows need to be just so for a good night of sleep. Finding your personal comfort level with firm, soft or medium pillows can take some experimentation but you will definitely want to try each type of pillow if you are switching from down. Down pillows are often firmer than those made with polyester fiberfill so you may want to begin with a firmer hypoallergenic version, as well.

Hypoallergenic pillows are also sold as body pillows. If you need a body pillow to sleep comfortably then opting for a hypoallergenic version is the best way to avoid allergens. Body pillows are sold in all fabric and fill combinations including soft polyester fiber fill. You can cover your body pillow with a hypoallergenic pillowcase for a complete set of allergy-fighting materials for your comfort.

Does Hypoallergenic Work?

There is some question about how well hypoallergenic pillows work. The materials are much better at resisting infestation by dust mites and the comfort is just as nice as any down pillow. There are alternatives to traditional pillows that you can choose for a noticeable reduction in overnight allergy symptoms. Your pillow selection doesn’t have to be limited by your allergies with the wide selection that is now available in hypoallergenic pillows.

Using an allergy mattress cover can save you the cost of replacing your bed when your allergies begin to disturb your sleep. If you suffer from sneezing, itchy eyes or even a runny nose overnight then you may need to make a change in your bedding. Hypoallergenic options are widely available for you to use for a more comfortable night.

The Advantages

The main advantage is using an allergy mattress cover is that you are protecting yourself from the accumulated dust and dust mites that are in your mattress. Most people use their bed for many years and don’t consider the allergens that build up within the layers of padding. A mattress cover made from hypoallergenic materials can reduce your overnight allergy symptoms and help you sleep deeply every night so you wake feeling totally rested.

Your allergy mattress cover won’t interfere with the comfort of your bed. Most bed covers are made from thin materials and you will put your sheets and bedding over the cover. You may also like a polyester filled mattress pad that increases the softness of your bed. If you have allergies and also have a too firm bed then a mattress cover can actually improve your night’s sleep significantly by adding additional softness to your bed as well as reducing allergies.

Care and Maintenance

You should wash your allergy mattress cover on a regular schedule to ensure there are no allergens on your bed. The cover is made from allergen repelling materials but over time will catch the dust and oils from your body as you sleep. You can wash your cover in your regular detergent on the setting that is recommended by the manufacturer. Hot water washes are often recommended to kill any dust mites that may be on the cover.

The care of your allergy mattress cover will also depend on the materials that it is made with. The most common material is soft polyester but eco-friendly options such as soy and cotton are also widely available. The cover may be manufactured without dyes or bleach if you are sensitive to those materials. Organic mattress pads are also an option. Organic bed covers are pesticide free and often made without chemical dyes or bleach. Some materials may need to be washed in cold rather than warm or hot and the use of bleach may be limited on these materials.

Foam Covers

Foam is also an option when you need allergy mattress covers for your bed. Foam is slightly firmer and can’t be washed as easily as other materials. These types of mattress covers are typically used under a zip style cover that protects both the foam and the mattress underneath but can also be used alone. Hypoallergenic foam can reduce the allergic reaction that you have when sleeping.

Any material that is resistant to dust mites can be considered hypoallergenic. Finding the materials that are most comfortable for your allergy mattress cover ensure a good night’s sleep every night.

A zippered mattress cover can be used to increase your beds softness, to protect from allergy causing dust mites and to simply protect your bed from dust and damage. A high quality cover will last for many years and can be washed along with your bedding. These tips will help you choose the perfect cover for your bed.

Styles and Materials

There are many different styles available for a zippered mattress cover. Nylon, polyester, and cotton are all choices that are common. More modern choices include bamboo, hemp, soy and organic cotton. Nylon is often used to protect the mattress from wetness while a polyester mattress cover can reduce allergens. A good zipper is a must on your mattress pad if you plan on washing often. Check for a metal zipper made from a rust-resistant material such as stainless steel for long lasting use.

The materials that are used in your zippered mattress pad will have an impact on your comfort if you are choosing thicker or padded covers. Padded polyester mattress pads are great for making your bed softer in addition to protecting the mattress from wetness and allergens. You may find that your mattress pad fits over your bed fairly tightly during the first few uses. After a few washes your cover will become much softer and easier to put on your bed.

Choosing Your Cover

If you are using a zippered mattress cover to help prevent allergy symptoms overnight then you may want to opt for a hypoallergenic material such as polyester or foam. A good way to know whether or not your cover is hypoallergenic is to read the product description carefully. Most products that help reduce allergens are labeled hypoallergenic. If you are simply looking for a cover to protect your mattress for wetness then you can simply choose any mattress cover that you like.

A nylon zippered mattress cover is a great choice for children. The material is completely waterproof and can be wiped down as needed to ensure cleanliness. Allergy prone children can use vinyl, as well. The material not only protects the mattress from accidents but also resists dust mites and other allergens. With regular cleaning your nylon mattress cover can be used for many years to protect both your child from allergens and the mattress.

Cleaning

Your zippered mattress cover will need cleaning occasionally. Vinyl covers are generally not washed in a washing machine so check your manufacturer’s instructions for care and cleaning tips. Other materials such as bamboo, polyester and cotton can be washed just like your other bedding. Set the water temperature to the recommended setting and use your regular detergent to help keep your mattress cover squeaky clean.

The zipper of your zippered mattress cover can also be cared for my using it properly. If you have a particularly large or heavy mattress then you may want to get some help when putting the cover on the bed to reduce strain on the zipper.

Allergy bedding can provide relief from any allergy symptoms that affect you while sleeping. There are many products available to reduce allergies while providing you with the comfort that you need for a great night’s sleep.

The Essentials

Sheets, blankets and pillows are absolutely essential for comfort. Allergy bedding is made from materials that are easy to wash and care for and that also resist dust mites to reduce allergies. Dust mites are one of the most common causes of allergic reactions at night. Materials such as polyester and foam are unique because the can be washed regularly without showing wear and because they also reduce the number of allergens that you are exposed to.

Allergens can include dust and dust mites as well as environmental allergens such as pollen. Since you are able to wash your allergy bedding regularly you can easily wash most of the common contaminants away. There are now options that include hypoallergenic down, as well. If polyester, vinyl and foam don’t appeal to you then you may want to look for silk, hypoallergenic down, or wool choices instead.

Natural and Hypoallergenic

Wool, organic cotton and silk are all options for allergy bedding. Wool is a traditional material that may bring to mind itchy, scratchy materials that are only good for braving the coldest weather, but today’s modern wool couldn’t be more different. Wool is a soft, luxurious way to incorporate allergy bedding into your home décor. Unbleached wool is completely dye free and organic wool is harvested from sheep that are fed and cared for organically.

Silk and organic cotton are also excellent all-natural choices for allergy bedding. Silk is one of the most popular materials for sheets simply because it is so comfortable. If you have been aching for a good night of sleep then nothing compares to the comfort of a warm wool blanket and silk sheets. These allergy fighters are more than a way to reduce allergic reactions to dust mites; they are also a great way to turn your bed into an oasis of comfort.

Caring For Natural Materials

Some natural materials that are used for allergy bedding require special care. Wool, for example, might shrink when dried on high heat. If you are using all natural materials for your bedding take the time to read the care instructions carefully. Wool, silk and organic fabrics often cost significantly more than other materials so it is important to wash and dry the bedding as recommended to avoid damage. Other materials, such as polyester, are completely washable in hot water and can be dried on high heat.

Reducing your allergies with allergy bedding is a simple solution to overnight sneezing, itchy eyes and coughing. Allergy bedding is widely available and includes pillows, mattress covers, blankets and sheets. There is no reason to suffer when these items can be purchased both locally and online for a cleaner, healthier bedroom than ever. You can even purchase bedding to reduce allergies in all natural, eco-friendly materials.

An allergy mattress can easily be your first line of defense against sneezing all night when you suffer from allergies. Dust mites are naturally attracted to the natural oils and cells from your body that is left on your bed. The materials used in an allergy resistant bed set will actually repel dust mites and reduce your allergic reactions while you sleep.

Materials Used

If you think an allergy mattress won’t fit your comfort needs you may be surprised to know that there are actually several options available. Choices including newer memory foam mattresses that are soft enough for even the most discriminating allergy sufferers as well as firmer options that provide more support. The most common materials used are foam and polyester but newer choices also include latex, cotton and bamboo.

Latex and organic materials are both excellent choices for an allergy mattress if you have chemical sensitivity. No bleaches or dyes are used in these materials so you are assured of a good night of sleep every single night. Latex mattresses aren’t plastic feeling but are instead woven into a wonderfully soft mattress that you can really enjoy sleeping on. These materials all resist common allergens such as dust mites in addition to being chemical free.

Advantages

Allergy mattress sets, bedding and mattress pads all have the advantage of being resistant to dust mites. Organic bedding that is also hypoallergenic has an added benefit of being totally free of chemicals and pesticides that are commonly used when growing cotton. Your bedding set will bring you relief from allergies while reducing your exposure to potentially toxic materials that are often used in the manufacturing process.

If you don’t want to buy a new mattress then you may want to simply try an allergy mattress cover, instead. You will find that a zippered mattress covers help reduce your exposure to allergens significantly without the expense of purchasing an entirely new bedroom set. Make sure you also replace your pillows and bedding with allergy resistant varieties for a complete set of allergy fighting sleep essentials.

Fighting Allergens
